Actually this message is the Past-President’s message. This recent May meeting included the transition of officers and it is my pleasure to inform you that Kevin O’Brien, MD was elected as our new MRS president. The MRS will be guided by a most accomplished radiologist and I look forward to his great leadership. I will continue in the role of BCBSM liaison and the Michigan Radiology PAC chair.
It is an honor to have been President of the MRS for the last year and I wish to thank all of the board members and members-at-large that has made this job easier. In particular I wish to thank Sarah Cressman for her administrative expertise as she has kept us all doing the things that we were supposed to do.
At the last meeting of the general membership several by-law changes were approved. Many of the changes updated the language to be gender neutral. Another change clarified the position of the section presidents. Each section president sits on the Board of Directors ex-officio with vote. The MRS Board also voted to continue our efforts at the state governmental level to seek change that limits self-referral of imaging.
Soon many of the board members will be heading to Washington, DC for the annual meeting of the ACR. In addition to participating in national issues that affect radiologists, we will garner ideas and practices from other states that we could potentially make use of here in Michigan. I am proud to report that the MRS has won Chapter Recognition Awards this year in the Meetings/Education category and the Overall Award. The ACR grants awards for: Communications, Government Relations, Meetings/Education, and Membership. Each chapter can only win one award for the individual categories.
Finally please put the Joint ACR/MRS Cardiac CT Supervised Case Review conference on your calendar that will be held June 2, 2007 at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Dearborn, MI. It is going to be a great conference and an opportunity to get your supervised case reviews performed.
Sincerely,
Kurt E Tech, MD – Past-President MRS
