Dear MRS Members,
I’m honored and excited to serve as your President for the 2025–2026 term. It’s a privilege to follow in the footsteps of Dr. Rocky Saenz, whose outstanding leadership over the past year strengthened our society’s voice, expanded educational opportunities, and deepened connections among members. His work, along with the dedicated efforts of so many MRS volunteers, has laid a strong foundation for the years ahead.
I’m grateful to be joined by an exceptional Executive Committee: President-Elect Evita Singh, MD, Vice President Shadi Azar, MBBS, Secretary Leah Davis, DO, and Treasurer Ashok Srinivasan, MD. I also want to thank our past presidents, Rocky Saenz, MD, Walt Sahijdak, MD, FACR, and Mark Weiss, MD, FACR, for their ongoing wisdom, guidance, and unwavering commitment to Michigan radiology.
In May of this year, your Councilors and Officers traveled to Washington, DC for the ACR Annual Meeting. MRS was well represented at the Fellowship Convocation with four new Fellows inducted into the American College of Radiology. Please join me in congratulating these new FACR inductees: Gauravi K. Sabharwal, Dean Hountras, Rocky Saenz, and Michael Kasotakis.
Recently, the MRS Executive Committee met, as we are in the process of planning the agenda and programs for the upcoming year.
This year, we will focus on four key priorities:
1. Advancing Advocacy
We will continue to champion radiology at the state and national levels, protecting the integrity of our specialty and ensuring patients have access to the highest quality imaging care. Building on the success of our MiRadiologists.com campaign, we will further strengthen our presence in Lansing and increase public awareness of radiology’s value.
2. Deepening AI Education
Artificial intelligence is reshaping medical imaging, bringing both exciting opportunities and new challenges. Our AI Ad Hoc Committee (pending board approval to a full fledged committee) will give members the tools and confidence to integrate AI thoughtfully into practice.
3. Inspiring Future Radiologists
We know the future of our specialty depends on attracting a diverse and vibrant next generation of radiologists. This year, we will continue our outreach and pipeline efforts to showcase the breadth and impact of radiology and highlight the critical role radiologists play in patient care.
4. Strengthening Member Engagement Across Michigan
Our society is strongest when every member feels connected and supported. As I mentioned briefly at the spring meeting, this is YOUR society. This year, we will endeavor to reach out to radiologists in every corner of the state to better understand their needs, identify opportunities for new programs, and ensure MRS is serving members effectively in all practice settings and career stages.
Our strength as a society lies in our shared commitment to advocacy, education, and professional connection. Together, we can ensure that Michigan radiology not only adapts to change but leads through it. I look forward to hearing your ideas, seeing you at our events, and working side by side to advance the future of radiology in our state. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me or any of our board members with suggestions on how we can serve our members.
With gratitude,
Andrew J. Woodrow, M.D.
